My stay at the Driskill Hotel in Austin, Texas

Those who have been following my adventures for a while know that I used to live in Austin for almost 1.5 years. It’s a great openminded city here in Texas with so many attractions.

Now that I live in San Antonio I decided to take a trip back to Austin for a luxury getaway weekend at the Driskill Hotel.

The Driskill Hotel was originally built in 1886, exactly 100 years before I was born. The iconic hotel was renovated in 1996. It elegantly combines authentic Texas charm with modern sophistication. The hotel is part of the Unbound Collection by Hyatt. It’s the oldest hotel in Austin, second oldest in Texas, and perfectly located on 6th and Congress. The words that come to mind when describing it are lovely, luxurious, romantic and historic.

My stay couldn’t have been better. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. Front desk agents met and exceeded our expectations, always helpful and professional. We received welcome amenities in our room and even got offered a late check out. Breakfast at the 1886 Café & Bakery was delicious. My favorite dish from the menu was The Hangover Omelet! Worth a try even if you are not staying at the hotel. Also I can’t forget to mention the fantastic bar. It has a night life filled with live music and the Old Fashion cocktails were to die for! If you haven’t been, stop in for happy hour!

I really love the hotel design as well. It’s completely my style. From the dozens of columns brilliantly lining the lobby, to the spotless marble floors and stained-glass dome ceiling, the hotel is gorgeous. The ambience screams luxury and comfort. Guest rooms are lovely designed and very comfortable as well! It is also the only hotel in Austin that has a sauna (steam room)!

Overall It was a very MEMORABLE experience.. The rich history behind The Driskill Hotel is remarkably present, and worth checking out for yourself.
